Besides to the many contributions of Sign Languages to science, art or communication, these languages have other benefits that are very popular with Deaf people in everyday life. When you're in a Disco or concert with the music so loud that you're afraid you'll get hoarse. With Sign Language you won't have problems to be understood...

When you're already on the train and you forgot to say something to someone else. It always works when there's a glass

When you dive and want to have a conversation underwater. Sign language goes far beyond the diver hand signals

When you don't know the answer to a question on a multiple-choice test and you want a classmate to help you without the teacher knowing. In sign language it is very easy using the fingerspelling

When you're in the library and you can't talk out loud. This also works in any silent place, such as a meeting or a church

When you want to gossip with somebody but you're afraid they'll hear you. Useful when other people don't know Sign Language and you don't want them to know what you're saying

And the last one, it's not popular, but it's very funny: when your breath smells bad. An ingenious idea for a 2006 Thai commercial (English subtitles)
